W3HAC, HacDC Amateur Radio Club welcomes everyone in and around the District of Columbia, including people at all levels of amateur radio licensing and from every walk of life. Our volunteer examiner team is comprised of DC amateur radio operators and W3HAC members dedicated to providing friendly, accessible amateur radio licensing examinations in Washington, D.C.

Exam Info

We typically hold our exam sessions at DC Public Library locations around the District. This exam session will be held at American University and is intended for students associated with the university's Department of Physics.

All are welcome to test with us! You can test for your Technician, General, or Amateur Extra Class License. While walk-ins are accepted, registration is highly encouraged. Applicants who are not pre-registered may encounter delays on exam day. Please make sure to register for an FCC Registration Number (FRN) before you come to the session (instructions here). Then, register here on Hamstudy using this page.

You may take multiple elements in a single appointment; we just ask that you have studied and are ready to pass. We allow one retest if you had no more than 10 incorrect questions total. We recommend that you are passing practice exams with 80% aptitude or higher.

Fees and Payments

As of August 2026, all exams are FREE!
