Taking an exam to get or upgrade your Amateur Radio License could not be easier with the Western Colorado Amateur Radio Club (WCARC).
It's a simple 2 step process:
- Register to take your via HamStudy.org. The registration Button can be found at the bottom of this page.
- Please arrive at the test location at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time, bringing your photo identification, FRN, and the $15.00 cash exam fee (exact change is preferred). All examinations are administered electronically; a club-provided tablet will be available for your use. If desired, you may bring one blank sheet of scratch paper for use during the test. The testing software includes a calculator feature, so it is not necessary to bring a personal calculator.
Exam testing is available following most WCARC club meetings. The meeting begins at 9:30 am and ends around 11 am; most members arrive by 9:00 am for coffee and donuts. You can attend the meeting to meet members before exams. Exams typically start at 11:00 am.
If you've not had a chance to review the club's website, it can be found at https://www.w0rrz.org
KEY TO SUCCESS: Arrive fully prepared for a ham radio test! Practice! Be sure you are consistently scoring above an 85% on practice tests. We can't guarantee it, but if consistently score over 85% you should pass the actual test with flying colors. Know the material! You should be able to complete the exam within 30 minutes. Most questions are short and simple concepts.
Practice Sites: We recommend either ARRL Exam Review for Ham Radioâ„¢ (https://arrlexamreview.appspot.com), a free site from the national ham radio group that you may want to join or HamStudy.org, another free site with lots of tips.
