- Please do not wait to the last minute to register. Registrations fill up quickly.
- When registering, the FCC requires the use of a “private” Email address, which does not “block” incoming emails. << Please do not use a Yadtel.net email address, which has been known to “block” emails.>>
Exams for all Amateur Radio licenses are offered at this test session. Before you click the REGISTER button below, please read all of the following instructions.
REGISTRATION Instructions: • Please note that this is a LIVE IN-PERSON TEST SESSION, NOT A REMOTE ON-LINE SESSION.
• You MUST include a valid email and your phone number during your registration. The email used, must be your private email address, and not a employers or intuitional email address. Yadtel.net email addresses, are known to “block” emails. Do not use.>>
• We DO NOT accept walk-ins, please REGISTER, in advance of the test session. If no one registers, there will NOT be an exam session. • Please arrive between 5:30 PM and 5:45 PM local Eastern Time. The exams start promptly at 6:00 PM
NOTE: Permission to start an exam after 6:00 PM will be at the discretion of the Volunteer Examiners!
a. We REQUIRE that you register with an FCC FRN (FCC Registration Number), prior to the test session. Click Here to obtain your FRN now. https://apps.fcc.gov/cores/html/Register_New_Account.htm Be sure your "registration name" matches your "FRN name" EXACTLY! Use Birthnames and not Nicknames.
Exam Location Information/Exams are held at the: American Red Cross, 650 Coliseum Dr, Winston Salem, NC 27106 Please park on the North side of the building. Enter through the North door, which is on the front of the building, facing Coliseum Drive.
Be prepared to show your ID, Exam Preregistration email, and state "I'm registered for this month’s Exam session". Once in the lobby, go to the left, thru the glass door. The Exam room will be the first door on your left.
What to bring to the exam session: • $12.00 cash (exact change preferred) Thank You. • Two forms of ID. One ID must have a picture of you, for example, a Driver’s License or Passport. Other ID can be a Military ID, Social Security card or Library card. • Optionally you can bring a calculator on which all programming has been erased. • Calculators on: cell phones, tablets, or laptops and are NOT permitted. • Eyeglass Camera or “Smart-Glasses” are prohibited and not allowed in the Exam sessions. • Bring the 4-digit PIN that was generated when you REGISTERED. We can provide your pin if you forget it. • When you have completed all of the exams that you wish to take - Finish and Sign Forms - Then wait until you are given the OK that all is done. - Please check-in/check-out on your Exam tablet and stylus with one of the VE’s, prior to leaving. At the Exam Session: • State your name and take a seat where indicated. • Have your payment ready and ID and be ready to show to a Volunteer Examiner (VE). • Please silence your cell phone.
Exam Session FAQs: • If you are 12 years of age or younger, do not register for an exam session until your parent or guardian has filled out the COPPA Parental Consent Form. • The tests will be given on Electronic Touch Screen Tablets. • If you pass Element 2 (Technician), you may take Element 3 (General). If you pass Element 3, you may take Element 4 (Extra). We recommend taking the next element, even if you have not studied for it, as you get to see what the next exam is like!
These exams are at NO EXTRA CHARGE, but only during this exam session. • If you fail an element, you may re-take the exam for an additional $12.00 fee, time permitting. • If you pass one or more elements, a Certificate of Successful Completion of Examination (CSCE) will be emailed to you at the email address that you supplied during registration. • If you have an expired Ham Radio license (less than two years since the license expiration), PLEASE send an email to: wb9szl99@gmail.com, listing “Expired Ham Radio License” in the email subject line. • Exam results are electronically submitted for processing at the end of the exam session. It usually takes 1 -2 business days for the Exam submissions to be processed. Then the FCC will send an email to you, with a web link to the FCC site where you can pay the $35 FCC fee online. You must pay the fee within 10 days, or your submission will be deleted. • Sometimes the FCC weblink to pay the $35 fee fails. You can check the next business day to see if they are ready for you to pay the fee by going to the FCC CORES website and logging in with your FRN. https://apps.fcc.gov/cores/userLogin.do
• To see if your license has been posted, use your FRN to check the ULS database. https://apps.fcc.gov/cores/ userLogin.do • To cancel your registration, or advise us of your late arrival, send an email to: wb9szl99@gmail.com, listing “Exam Cancellation” in the email subject line.
