Notes from the team:

Good day, you are registering for a ARRL VE Examination for either a new Amateur Radio license or an upgrade. The cost is $15, examination are paper exams, but grading and filing Is all processed through Exam Tools using GradeCam technology. Registration guarantees accuracy of paperwork and filing for Federal Registration Number (FRN number) which replaces the use of your Social Security Number. Note: If you have every had a FRN number due to any other license you carry the FCC such as GMRS, please us that FRN number, as generating a new one will delay your paperwork.

At the Exam session I prefer Cash, but check and credit card are usually an option if you contact me ahead of time. The cost of the exam is $15. When you arrive, please place your payment and photo Id on the table in front of you, and if you gave a cellular product please place that on silent and in your pocket or purse. If you need a calculator we do have some 4 function ones that are available.

Testing is not timed, most people completed their test in 20 to 35 minutes, if you pass you are welcome to take the next element at no charge. If you should fail, and were close, you can also pay an additional $15 fee and take a different version of the test. We have had good success if you missed by one or two just having a different pool of questions. Let one of the volunteer examiners know you would like to do this.

If for any reason you did not pass at the in person, or became ill or your schedule does not permit, we can work around your schedule to do a personalized session if you live or would meet in the area.

Most important, after you pass you license, Have fun… You will probably receive your call sign or upgrade the next business day, which usually will fall on Monday, sometimes Tuesday at the latest. We encourage you to then join a local amateur radio club, they will help demonstrate some of the equipment and technology and facets of the hobby that are out there. The world is at your fingertips.
